Michael Schöll

Michael Schöll is a Professor of Molecular Medicine at the University of Gothenburg (UGOT), Sweden, and a Principal Research Fellow at the Dementia Research Centre, University College London (UCL), UK. He also directs the molecular neuroimaging program at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg.

His research focuses on identifying the earliest pathogenetic changes in neurodegenerative disorders through combinations of imaging, fluid-derived, and digital biomarkers. He is particularly interested in translating these findings into clinical practice, making diagnostic and prognostic modalities more widely accessible to clinicians. He is Principal Investigator of the REAL AD study, which aims to prepare Swedish health care for the implementation of digital and blood-based biomarkers and to lay the groundwork for potential Alzheimer’s disease screening.

Since 2021, Michael Schöll has been ranked among the top 1% most-cited researchers in Neuroscience by Clarivate Web of Science. He has received the Queen of Sweden’s Award to a Young Investigator and the Birger Karlsson Science Award from the Royal Society of Arts and Sciences for his scientific contributions. He is an elected member of the Young Academy of Sweden and a Brain Pool Fellow of the National Research Foundation of Korea.
